  • Investment firm Roth Capital lowered its price target for Canadian Solar to $15.
  • Canadian Solar reported a wider loss of $1.40 per share in Q2 2026, but revenues reached $1.21 billion, beating estimates.
  • The company saw a significant operational shift with battery storage shipments increasing by 73% year-over-year, while solar module shipments declined.

Canadian Solar (NASDAQ:CSIQ) is a global energy company that manufactures solar photovoltaic modules and provides battery storage solutions. The company is a key player in the renewable energy industry, developing, building, and operating solar power projects worldwide. It faces competition from other major solar panel and energy solution providers.

On August 28, 2026, investment firm Roth Capital lowered its price target for Canadian Solar to $15, down from a previous target of $18. A price target is an analyst’s projection of a stock’s future price. At the time, Canadian Solar’s stock price was $13.14, suggesting a potential 14.16% increase if it reaches the new target.

This adjustment follows the company’s mixed second-quarter 2026 results. Canadian Solar reported a loss of $1.40 per share, which was wider than the estimated loss of $1.01, as highlighted by Zacks. This is a significant change from the eight-cent loss reported in the same quarter of the previous year.

Despite the wider loss, revenues reached $1.21 billion, beating analyst estimates. However, this figure marks a 28.7% decrease from the $1.69 billion reported a year ago. The company’s gross margin, which is the profit made on sales before administrative costs, also fell to 13.9% from 29.8% in the prior year.

Operationally, the company saw a major shift. While solar module shipments declined, battery storage shipments increased by 73% year-over-year to 3.7 GWh. Looking ahead, Canadian Solar projects third-quarter revenues between $1.30 billion and $1.50 billion, an outlook that Benzinga notes is below what analysts had expected.
