  • This strategic move aims to narrow the profit gap with major competitors like Delta Air Lines and United Airlines Holdings.

On August 18, 2026, analyst firm Jefferies restated a Hold rating for American Airlines (NASDAQ: AAL). This rating was given when the stock was priced at $14.05. American Airlines is one of the largest airlines in the world, operating a vast network of domestic and international flights and competing with carriers like Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL) and United Airlines Holdings (NASDAQ: UAL).

American Airlines is reversing its previous decision by planning to reintroduce seatback entertainment screens on its planes. As highlighted by Business Insider, this change is a direct response to traveler demand. The company notes that younger passengers, in particular, have expressed a strong preference for having in-flight entertainment screens available during their flights.

This move is part of a larger strategy to attract higher-spending travelers. As reported by Reuters, American Airlines will also add more premium seats to its narrowbody jets. The airline is making these changes to help close the significant profit gap it currently has with its main competitors, Delta Air Lines and United Airlines.

The rollout of new 4K displays will begin with aircraft deliveries from Boeing (NYSE: BA) and Airbus (EPA: AIR) in 2028. According to CNBC, American Airlines also plans to update its existing planes to include these screens. The retrofits will also add features like Bluetooth audio pairing and USB-C charging ports for all passengers in every cabin.

Currently, American Airlines stock is trading at $14.05, which is a decrease of $0.38 or 2.63% for the day. The company has a market capitalization of approximately $9.3 billion. Over the past 52 weeks, the stock has traded as high as $18.79 and as low as $10.09.
