Verizon (NYSE: VZ), the prominent wireless carrier stock, currently trades at $46.35. This comes as Scotiabank lowers its price target for the telecom stock to $50.00 from $51.50. A price target represents an analyst’s estimate of where a stock could trade. The new target suggests an upside of approximately 7.90% above Verizon’s price at the time of publication.

Verizon, a leading provider of mobile phone and internet service, faces stiff competition from rivals like AT&T (NYSE: T) and T-Mobile US (NASDAQ: TMUS). Verizon’s shares are currently under pressure after SpaceX announced a significant deal to acquire Grain Management’s nationwide wireless spectrum portfolio for its Starlink Mobile initiative. This news also led to a decline in AT&T shares, while cell-tower stocks saw a rise, as reported by MarketWatch, reflecting shifts in the telecommunications competition landscape.

This strategic deal involves licenses for up to 14 megahertz of paired wireless spectrum in the 800 MHz band, pending Federal Communications Commission (FCC) approval. Spectrum refers to the crucial set of radio frequencies that transmit wireless signals. SpaceX emphasizes that these lower frequencies are vital for addressing a technical gap, bolstering its ambitious plan to establish Starlink Mobile as a major U.S. mobile network carrier.

Despite the broader market pressures, Verizon’s stock performance today shows it is up $0.58, or 1.27%, trading at $46.35. The stock fluctuated between $45.72 and $46.55 during the day. Its 52-week range stands between $38.39 and $51.68. The company’s market capitalization, representing the total value of all its shares, is approximately $193.50 billion, with a daily trading volume of about 20.90 million shares.
