Weyerhaeuser (NYSE: WY) Stock Analysis: Price Target Adjustments and Market Performance

  • Analyst Price Targets: Seaport Global lowered its price target for Weyerhaeuser to $30.00, while other firms like Raymond James upgraded to “strong buy,” Citigroup cut its target, and Truist maintained “hold” with a raised target.
  • Market Performance: Weyerhaeuser (NYSE: WY) shares recently touched a new 52-week low of $18.31, trading at $18.51, reflecting market pressure.
  • Dividend Coverage Concerns: Despite analyst estimates for fair value, dividend coverage remains a concern, with adjusted funds covering only 59.00% of the $0.84 base dividend, necessitating land sales to cover the difference.

Weyerhaeuser (NYSE: WY) shares trade at $18.51 as Seaport Global lowers its price target for Weyerhaeuser to $30.00 from $32.00. The new target is about 62.10% above that share price. Weyerhaeuser owns and manages timberland and sells wood products, making its results sensitive to demand for lumber and other building materials.

The stock has also touched a new 52-week low of $18.31, as highlighted by Defense World. Shares were last reported at $18.34 that day, down about 0.70% from the previous close of $18.47, with roughly 379,000 shares traded. The low puts recent analyst targets well above the market price.

Other analysts take different views. Raymond James upgrades Weyerhaeuser to “strong buy” with a $30.00 target. Citigroup (NYSE: C) keeps its “buy” rating but cuts its target from $30.00 to $29.00, while Truist (NYSE: TFC) maintains “hold” and raises its target from $27.00 to $28.00. A price target is an analyst’s estimate, not a guaranteed future price.

A Seeking Alpha analysis estimates Weyerhaeuser’s fair value at $24.00–$29.00 per share, or 30.00%–57.00% above recent prices, based on timberland values and mid-cycle earnings. Dividend coverage remains a concern: recent adjusted funds available for distribution cover only 59.00% of the $0.84 base dividend. Land sales make up the difference, so regular operations alone do not cover that payment.
